On a sunny day in early Autumn, I was riding the ferry from Norfolk to Portsmouth on my way to an afternoon photowalk, my bag loaded with three film cameras. As the boat began the crossing across the Elizabeth river, I reached for my Nikon F6 which was loaded with Kodak Portra 400 film and fitted with a NIKKOR 50mm f/1.8D (aka, ‘The Nifty Fifty’). As I was scanning the shore in search of interesting subject matter to shoot, a jet roared overhead.
